Video transcript: When and where should feedback be captured, reviews be captured? Every workflow is going to be different. I know that if the patient is established, doing it in the waiting room or the exam room is great. You already know the patient, the patient already knows you. It's an opportunity to burn time. Typically in a waiting room, underline the word wait, patients are looking at their clock, getting a little angrier as each minute goes by. Give them something to do. Something to do is feedback over the entire prior encounters. Number three would be at check out. And then number four, least desirable, is that email links for the patient at home. I'm not a fan of that. We probably have a handful of doctors that say patients get in, there's no waiting, they get out and we really have no place to get feedback to place the iPad in the office. Can we do it by emailing the links? The answer is of course. We accommodate that. You can email links, we can do that. The challenge is that the results aren't as great. When I say the results aren't as great, I mean that not as many people are filling out the survey. So if you do it point of service, you're looking at 99 percent uptake rate. If you do email links to a patient at home, you're looking at may be one in four or one in five. Still pretty good but not as great as point of service.

My comment is "Well you do know that Google is marketing you?" And they'll go "What do you mean by that?" And I'll say "Here, take a look. This is a search result that pops up your name. You are being marketed. And if you take no control over this whatsoever, this is what you're going to see." So Google is making its best guess. It's not just Google, it's Bing and Yahoo, etc. They're taking their best guess as to what people are searching for. If you want to take control over that dynamic, you've got to get into the game. How do you get in the game? You ask patients for feedback. You ask for reviews. The era of being afraid of reviews and allowing the world to happen to you, it's over. You use reviews for everything. If you buy a TV, a car, a book, a hotel room...you are going to check reviews. Everybody is going to check reviews. Everybody is doing it now. Healthcare is no different. I take care of patients. I fix them. They look great. They do great. But I feel kind of strange. Like it's a violation of my ethical boundaries to ask a patient to give me feedback". The answer is don't ask a review, don't ask for a testimonial. What you're really asking for is feedback. You're saying "Would you be kind enough to give me feedback on our practice? Tell me what we're doing well, tell us what we're doing poorly, what we could change, what you like about us" You really are asking for real-world feedback. Well, if you know who the patient is, you can reach out to him or her and try and solve their problem. And if you have solved the problem, ask if they will update or even remove the review.
